Since I’d never cooked much, I didn’t want to start, but I knew I had to do this for my mother.
I can only imagine the hell you went through—rejection after rejection.
The statues were fakes: hollow, plaster-like replicas designed to raise the social status of the owners.
We never knew for certain its origin, only what we could accumulate from quick glances at it as it darted about.
We, as humans, need to be around others who have felt what we’re feeling.
Perhaps the fact of her mother’s death was real to her, as real as it could get, whether or not she ever saw the body.
