Why I Need You to Watch the Sunset

I need you to close the laptops
You have opened on the dining room table
On your lap
And on the bed next to you
All of you

And I need you to come up on the roof now
Because the sky is pink and orange
And the ancients believed those who witness these colors
Would live forever

And since the cat has already seen the sun, and it's set
And since she is not willing to be embalmed like
Her Egyptian foremothers
You will have to watch with her
And you will have to care for her
When there are only stars in the sky
