Artist's Statement

I've been taking photographs of my son both to celebrate him and to remember the fleeting moments that parenting offers.

These moments are my reason for being: glimpsing the joys of this lovely little person, watching him negotiate a confusing, manufactured world, seeing the (sometimes slow and sometimes fast) development of his intellect, emotions, and body. The photographs that capture these moments remind me to watch him grow and flourish, to continue to help guide his mind and heart, and to try my best to surround him with love and safety.

In each of these moments, the present is a gift, and I bow my head in humble thanks.

Shamus LangloisShamus McCaffrey Langlois was raised making art and playing in the forests on the fringe of New England civilization. He attended the Putney School and began making direct metal sculpture under the guidance of Joseph Fichter. He earned a BA in Fine Arts from Bard College, majoring in abstract metal sculpture with a focus on figurative drawing, studying with sculptor Jacob Grossberg. Shamus worked as an artist’s assistant in New York City before relocating to Northern New England to pursue a more agrarian lifestyle in a bucolic setting while raising his son and continuing to create. Currently, he works as a freelance artist and is the co-director of Gallery Six in Montpelier, Vermont.
